The history of naming of the Upazilla:

The Fakirhat Police Station was established on 7 June. On 1 August, Fakirhat was declared as a standard police station. The exact history of naming of the Upazilla is not known. However, it is reported that a Muslim monk named Fakir Mangal Shah made his residence near the police station on the south bank of the river Bhairab. It is known that, this saintly man possessed miraculous divine power. From time to time, shop & hat sat in the center of his dorm. In time, it was transformed into a hat, with growth and expansion. The hat, which became the focus of Fakir's dorm, later became known as Fakirhat.

The context of initiating social service activities:

The Directorate of Social Services is one of the National Organizations of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. From that time onwards, the Department of Social Services has been working relentlessly to strengthen social security barriers with a comprehensive and multifaceted program for the welfare and development of the poor, neglected, backward, poor, orphans, autistic and disabled and the needy people of the society. The Department of Social Services began its journey at the Upazilla Social Services Office, Fakirhat, Bagerhat, with the intention of reaching the doorsteps of marginalized people.
